China has three official Golden Weeks, each created by bridging a statutory holiday with adjacent weekends:

The State Council announces the exact schedule each year. The pattern is consistent: if a holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the preceding or following Monday (or Friday) becomes a working day to create the 7-day stretch. This means you might work a weekend to get a week off.

For Spring Festival 2026 (likely late January), consider:
- Taking 1-2 extra days before the official holiday to beat the crowds
- Booking travel at least 30 days ahead
- Avoiding the first and last days of the Golden Week if possible — these are peak travel days
